Spotlight On: Kilogarm

Spotlight On: Kilogarm

It goes without saying that this is a difficult time for event organisers. Covid-19 (Coronavirus) has made us rethink a lot of our plans and overall approach to future events. We want to show you that whatever your situation, you’re not alone.

We’ve caught up with event organisers that host a range of events to understand challenges they might have faced during lockdown, provide inspiration and share learnings that can help those of you in similar positions.

In this blog we speak to Kilogarm, a secondhand clothing retailer and wholesaler that have recently shifted their vintage clothing sale events online.

Tell us about your event?

Kilogarm is a second hand clothing retailer and wholesaler that specialise in organising pop-up events. We would normally travel from city to city, across Ireland and host vintage kilo sales.

How has the Covid-19 situation affected your events?

We had three events scheduled to take place in Cork, Sligo and Dublin throughout March. Obviously the Covid-19 restrictions forced us to postpone them until it is deemed safe to hold public events again. However, we were still keen to provide our audience with the Kilogarm experience and try out a new format for the event through a virtual Kilogarm sale.

How have you moved events online and what benefits do you see from this?

We’ve agreed with our venue partners to rearrange the in-person events to a later date. Running Kilogarm events online in the short term allows us to start engaging with new customers and hopefully will mean we will meet new attendees later in the year.

Hosting the events online means that event goers are able to browse all of our available products at one time and gives them the opportunity to discover some hidden gems that they wouldn’t find anywhere else!

How are you keeping your audience informed of the changes and any updates?

We’ve utilised the email feature on FIXR to communicate with all of our customers on upcoming events. It’s easy to do and having information about our ticket-holders in one place is very convenient. We’ve also announced all event updates across our social channels.

So far the feedback has been really supportive and considerate. We’re really grateful to our customers for their continued support and interest.

Any other thoughts to add?

There is an opportunity to use this time to strategise and prepare for future events. It is also a time to take advantage of the fact that everyone is online and you can communicate your events with new audiences that you may not have reached in a physical space.

Key takeaways:

  • Be clear, consistent and proactive in communications with event attendees.
  • Leverage your online presence to drive momentum towards online and future events and to get people talking about your brand.
