How Facebook's change to Facebook Page Custom Tabs affects Event organisers

Facebook recently made a change to Custom Tabs on Facebook Pages which prevents third party data from loading within a Facebook page. Third party Ticketshop integrations like ours rely on this functionality to render event organisers’ events from the FIXR Organiser onto a Facebook page.

No prior warning was given by Facebook about this change and we understand that it may be permanent. As a result, the Facebook Ticketshop feature is no longer functional. We are disabling it within our CMS for the foreseeable future.

How does it affect you as an event organiser?

  • It will no longer be possible for event organisers to download a Facebook Ticketshop integration code from the FIXR Organiser.
  • This does not affect website ticketshops. These can still be integrated into your own website.
  • This does not affect the Facebook pixel integration which can still be used to track conversions on the website Ticketshop.

You used the integration, so what are your options?

You can create individual Facebook events and add a link to your FIXR event page or own website (if using website ticketshop). Many event organisers already create Facebook events to improve discoverability and encourage social traffic to convert to purchase.

You can edit your Facebook page tabs and rearrange the order to determine which sections people see at the top of your page. If you are creating Facebook events (as well as events on FIXR), move the "Events” tab higher up the list so it appears ahead of less tabs or custom tabs that are less important to your business.

What can you do to improve your Facebook page?

Event organisers who have a Facebook Ticketshop integration should edit their Facebook Page tabs and reorder the list so “Buy Tickets” is further down (lower priority) and/or toggle off “Buy Tickets” so it does not display at all. Your tab may be called "Tickets" or "Get Tickets".

Add your Organiser URL to your Facebook page so people finding and engaging with you on Facebook can click-through to get tickets.

Use the updated “Follow an Organiser” feature. Encourage your fans to follow you on FIXR. When they opt in to email and/or push notifications, they will be notified when your next event goes live. Keep your fans happy and sell tickets faster.
